Asia Cup

President of Sri Lanka Cricket, Shammi Silva has been invited by the BCCI to witness the IPL Playoffs that are starting from today.

However, the main agenda of this meeting is to discuss hosting rights for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

Recently, Shammi Silva was also re-elected as the President of the SLC for the third time.

Therefore, these talks are vital to both boards as this will lead to further developments in the coming week.

As is known, the BCCI and PCB are at loggerheads over hosting the Asia Cup in Pakistan.

However, Silva is hopeful that these talks will be vital and bring new developments on the Asia Cup.

Says Silva,

We have been invited to witness IPL Play-offs in India and during that trip, there will be discussions on the Asia Cup 2023. Nothing has been decided yet. But I think the fate of Asia Cup 2023 will be decided over the next week or so.

BCCI gets backing from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka of removing Asia Cup from Pakistan

Meanwhile, BCCI has got ample support from Bangladesh Cricket Board and Sri Lanka Cricket over removing the Asia Cup.

Furthermore, both BCB and SLC have also rejected PCB’s hybrid model of hosting the event in Pakistan and at a neutral venue as well.

But, the ACC has not yet issued any official statement on this issue.

A final call will be taken in the coming weeks after discussions with the other boards.

Also, the schedule of the Asia Cup will also be decided in the same time frame by the ACC.

Once the hosting rights will be cleared, then only the official schedule be made by the ACC.

PCB has also not issued any official statement on whether Pakistan will or will not participate in the ODI World Cup in India.
