Benjamin Pavard might leave Bayern this season

With the growing interest in Matthijs de Ligt for Bayern Munich, the French defender Benjamin Pavard might leave this summer.

As mentioned in a report of Kicker, the latest rumor is that the France international might continue his career elsewhere. This is because Bayern very recently considered signing the Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus. Two senior defenders in the form of Jerome Boateng and David Boateng left the club before the start of the recently concluded season. Boateng joined Olympique Lyonnais whereas Alaba went to the eventual La Liga and UCL winners, Real Madrid. The Bavarian giants lacked a defensive leader in their unit but didn’t offer or look at Benjamin Pavard as a viable option for that leadership role.

On the other hand, Pavard might decide to stay at Bayern for the upcoming season. But if Bayern decides to buy de Ligt, then Pavard will face competition in both his roles. Initially, after the signing of Mazraoui, Bayern decided to shift Pavard as a centre-back. But now that they are considering signing the Dutch centre-back, Pavard might move on from Munich.

What are Benjamin Pavard’s expectations?

Kicker reporter Georg Holzner said the following:

“Pavard could change this summer, as Sky has also reported. As #kicker reported exclusively, he himself wants to be a defensive leader at a top European club. At #fcbayern he is not believed to be capable of this role according to #kicker information. FCB wants a defense chief.”

Moreover, various reports are suggesting that Benjamin Pavard wants to play that leadership role in Bayern Munich’s defensive unit. But the club is not sure if he would be a fit candidate to fulfill that specific role he is demanding. So, to achieve that role he might have to move out and look elsewhere ahead of the start of the next season.
