With the new season a few days to go, FC Barcelona need to let go of their fringe squad players. They already successfully offloaded Philippe Coutinho, Clement Lenglet, and Francisco Trincao. But still, there are many others the club would like to get rid of their wage bill, including Martin Braithwaite.
The stint of Martin Braithwaite has been quite below the satisfactory level for FC Barcelona. He always struggled to fit in the system of the coaches he played under at Barca. The void that Luis Suarez left with his departure was massive and the Dane never filled it. However, with decreasing game time, the striker is still nodding his head upside down to stay at Barca.
It was a very peculiar signing for Barcelona when they bought Martin Braithwaite from CD Leganes. He was the top scorer for his team in that particular season until Barca bought him. But his role at the club was quite unsure to his managers, may it be Quique Setien or Ronald Koeman. Since joining the Camp Nou outfit, the striker scored 10 goals and recorded 5 assists in 57 apps.
In the recently concluded season, Braithwaite had very little involvement. Also under the new head coach and Barca legend Xavi, his game time was reduced even further. This is because after Xavi’s arrival the club bought the likes of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres, and Adama Traore. Also, Luuk de Jong made quite an impact and Xavi preferred him over Braithwaite. Furthermore, for the upcoming season, they also added Robert Lewandowski.
Recent developments on Braithwaite transfer
Spanish clubs Getafe and Rayo Vallecano enquired about the availability of the Danish striker. Braithwaite can be an ideal player for them as he already have experience in the league. Other than these Spanish clubs, Braithwaite also received offers from two Premier League clubs. But their names remain unrevealed.
