The biggest transfer news of the summer comes from London, where Tottenham Hotspur have accepted Bayern Munich’s latest bid for Harry Kane. The ground-breaking news just came in about an hour ago today. According to The Athletic, Bayern have agreed a deal worth €100 million + add-ons with Tottenham. The German giants had seen their last three bids being rejected by Spurs. However, due to their strong interest in Kane, Bayern have decided to offer ‘whatever it takes‘ to sign the world-class striker.

Bayern had been in hunt for a prolific striker, desperately this summer. They wanted to find a strong replacement for Robert Lewandowski who left the club last summer. However, they decided to sign Sadio Mane in 2022 as a replacement for Lewandowski, under their former manager, Julian Naglesmann. Things went bad for Mane at Bayern when Tuchel replaced Naglesmann as the manager. Tuchel did not consider Mane in his plans as he wanted a ‘proper striker’ in his system at Bayern. As a result, Bayern began their pursuit of a world-class striker this summer, while Mane departed the club to join Al-Nassr.

The German champions were reported to be very firm in their interest for Kane. They had openly praised the English captain. Even last season, Bayern’s former CEO, Oliver Kahn, openly expressed his desire to bring Kane to Bayern. Thomas Tuchel also, had expressed his admiration for Kane on multiple occasions. The German reportedly considers Harry to be the ‘best in the world‘. It was reportedly his conviction and desire for Kane that convinced Bayern to make a fourth offer to Tottenham, that matched their asking price as well.

The Deal Is Not Finalized Yet!

Despite the agreement between the club, the deal is not finalized yet, the final hurdle is still left for Bayern. With the bid agreed by Tottenham, the decision now rests completely in Harry Kane’s hands. Reportedly, Bayern’s executives will be flying to London to meet with Kane and his agent, within the next two days. Kane earlier, was reported to be interested in a deal with Bayern. He was open to any discussions, only if they accepted a deal with Spurs, before the first game of the season. And now that Bayern have managed to do that, things have become quite enthralling.

However, according to recent reports, Kane is leaning towards a stay. He is believed to be targeting the PL record of most goals scored, currently held by Alan Shearer. Kane, so far, has scored a staggering 213 goals in the PL, only 47 less than Alan Shearer’s 260. By looking at the rate at which Kane scores, he might be easily able to shatter the record within the next two seasons. Harry Kane was in similar situation two years ago. At that time, he was strongly linked to Man City for a move. The deal collapsed because Tottenham didn’t allow their record man to depart that summer. However this time, the fate is entirely in Harry’s hands. If he decides to stay at Spurs this time, it will become quite clear that he is planning to end his career at Spurs only.

“Tottenham will 100% be a bottom half team if Kane leaves”

Harry Kane is without a doubt Tottenham’s best and most consistent player. His performance and numbers produced each season speak for themselves. It is almost impossible to imagine Spurs without Kane. The fact is that Kane is amongst the best players in the world at a club like Spurs, who have not been able to sustain themselves at the top level. Some fans of the beautiful game give a collective opinion that Spurs are holding Harry Kane back. They believe that the zero trophies in Kane’s career will stop him to go down as one of the greatest players ever. Even the Spurs fans, amidst interest from Bayern, have expressed that they will be happy to see Kane go elsewhere and win trophies, sending out a very strong message.

However, some experts believe that Tottenham will not be able recover from Kane’s loss, if he decides to leave. Amongst those experts, Paul Merson believes that without Kane, Tottenham will not be able to finish in the upper half of the table. Speaking about the transfer saga, the Arsenal legend has given his opinions on Kane’s importance to Spurs. “They’re 100 per cent a bottom half team if he leaves. Who is going to get the goals? They finished eighth last season. I like James Maddison, he’s a good player. But Leicester got relegated.”, were Merson’s exact words.
