Brighton Set Asking Price For Cucurella

Chelsea will have to pay 45 million pounds to sign Marc Cucurella. The Sun report that Brighton will not let the Spaniard go for cheap.

A La Masia graduate, Cucurella moved to the south coast this season for 15 million pounds. He has now tripled his value under Graham Potter. A dynamic presence on the left flank, Cucurella never stops running. Technically gifted and defensively solid, he seemed perfect for the Premier League.

Cucurella would be a perfect addition to Thomas Tuchel’s squad. Marcos Alonso is close to a move to Barcelona and leaves a gap in Chelsea’s squad. Ben Chilwell was impressive before his unfortunate injury against Juventus, and it is no guarantee that he will reach his previous level. In such a case, buying Marc Cucurella might be both sensible and impressive.

What Does Cucurella Offer?

Cucurella may consider a move to one of the “big clubs” higher up in the table. Speaking to the Spanish show Jijantes FC, the wingback said:

The goal [at Brighton] was to develop so the big clubs can take notice. But if the opportunity arises, you have to take advantage of it. There are teams that you can’t say no to.

Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are in the race too. Cucurella would be the dream Guardiola fullback with his energy and tenacity, in addition to his technical proficiency. He will also fit Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 system like a glove, especially with the uncertain future of Sergio Regulion.

Cucurella would not feel out of place at any top club. The young defender has all the attributes of a modern fullback and can fill in at left centre back as well. The asking price by Brighton may seem steep, but it is quite fair. The 45 million can turn out to be a shrewd investment down the line, should the Blues pursue him.
