Brighton welcomes Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League’s midweek match-day. While Brighton will contest their 29th league game, Tottenham have a game in hand and will play their 28th game. Graham Potter’s men sit 13th in the table, just two points clear of Newcastle United who were fighting relegation till last month. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s push for Champions League football is facing multiple setbacks despite having games in hand over their top-four rivals. Spurs at the moment find themselves 8th in the table, out of every European spot.

Brighton and Hove Albion are on a run of five defeats. The Seagulls looked for some points after their four defeats in a row against a title-chasing Liverpool in their last game. But Klopp’s men did their routine job and inflicted a fifth defeat on Brighton. Moreover, Liverpool’s clean-sheet against Brighton meant the Seagulls have scored only one goal in their last five league games. However, Brighton triumphed at home the last season when they faced Tottenham in the league as this will be their first meeting this season.

Likewise, Brighton, Tottenham come into this game on the back of a defeat in the league. Spurs were downed 3-2 by Manchester United who rallied on the back of a Ronaldo hat-trick. Mixed results in the last few games have dented Tottenham’s hopes for Champions League football. But Antonio Conte has got his best men in their best form, with Harry Kane netting 6 times and Son scoring 2 and assisting 2 in their last 5 league games.

Brighton vs Tottenham: Team News

The Seagulls’ team news

Center-back Adam Webster was out against Liverpool and is set to miss the mid-week game against Tottenham too. Furthermore, Graham Potter has suggested that Webster would be available only after the international break. Another casualty for Brighton against Tottenham is Adam Lallana. The former Liverpool midfielder was forced off the pitch with a hamstring injury against the Reds at the weekend.

Enock Mwepu returned to the bench at the weekend after recovering from his hamstring injury and could get some minutes against Tottenham. Mwepu provided 3 assists in his last three league games before getting sidelined due to injury. Potter would be expecting him to regain his touch against Tottenham. Mac Allister was brilliant against Liverpool and should again start this game. Danny Welbeck could also find his name in the starting eleven against Spurs. Yves Bissouma could be dropped for Pascal Gross after his dismal performance at the weekend.

Brighton possible starting lineup

Sanchez; Lamptey, Veltman, Dunk, Cucurella; Alzate, Gross; Welbeck, Mac Allister, Trossard; Maupay

Spurs’ team news

Tottenham have only one fresh injury against Brighton apart from Japhet Tanganga and Oliver Skipp. Tanganga is nursing his knee injury whereas Skipp remains out with a groin injury. Ryan Sessegnon has now joined Tanganga and Skipp on the sidelines. Sessegnon was taken-off against Everton due to a muscular problem. Conte has further provided an update about the left-back stating that he will need a month to recover.

Tottenham’s performance was far from what the result said against United. Spurs played a solid game but moments of brilliance from Ronaldo helped United win. Conte may field the same lineup which faced United against Brighton. Hojberg and Bentancur were excellent in the middle while Kulusevski continued his form from the Everton game.

Tottenham possible starting lineup

Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Doherty, Bentancur, Hojberg, Reguilon; Kulusevski, Son; Kane

Our Prediction

Brighton 1-3 Tottenham

Brighton have plummeted in their last few games while Tottenham have rejuvenated. A victory is on cards for Tottenham as Brighton could succumb to a sixth straight loss. While Brighton may breach Tottenham’s clean-sheet here, Spurs look set to take all three points and go sixth in the table, level on points with West Ham. Kane and Son have poached down the opposition’s defense in the last few games, and have now received a reinforcement of Kulusevski. A win for Tottenham here to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
