Burnley vs Newcastle: Preview, Team News, Prediction

tennis player

Newcastle United will make a trip to Turf Moor for their final game of the Premier League 2021 – 22 season. This is a must win game for The Clarets. Burnley sit in a position from where relegation is quite a possibility.

They are in 17th place, edging past Leeds United in goal difference despite they have the same points. On the other hand, Newcastle United are far from safe after their miserable start in the league campaign. They are a rejuvenated side under new owners and manager Eddie Howe.

Currently, The Clarets sit in 17th place, closest to the relegation zone with 35 points from 37 games. To emphasize, how important this game is for Burnley to win, Leeds also has 35 points from the same number of games played. Where Burnley has a lead is their goal difference which is a lot better when compared to Leeds United’s.

Eddie Howe will take his team down to Lancashire on the back of a superb win at their home against Arsenal. They defeated The Gunners 2-0 with a superb all-round performance and almost shattered their chances of playing in Champions League. Newcastle United failed to win any of their first 14 matches in the league and then Howe took control of the reins. He picked them up from the relegation zone and put them in a much better position. He also earned a PL Manager of the Season nomination owing to the carryjob he did for The Magpies.

Burnley vs Newcastle: Team News, Supensions and Injuries

Jonjo Shelvey, Federico Fernandez, Isaac Hayden, Joe Willock and Jamal Lewis missed out on Newcastle’s emphatic victory over Arsenal. They all are in doubt for the final game of the season. However, Ryan Fraser will be in the squad along with Callum Wilson who can get his second successive start.

Ben Mee, Ashley Westwood, Jay Rodriguez, Johann Berg Gudmundsson, and Matej Vydra will again miss out. Tarkowski featured against Aston Villa and Dale Stephens was in the squad too. They are expected to be in the squad against Newcastle too. Erik Pieters needs assessment.

Burnley Predicted Lineup: Pope; Roberts, Collins, Long, Taylor; McNeil, Cork, Brownhill, Lennon; Cornet, Weghorst

Newcastle United Predicted Lineup: Dubravka; Trippier, Schar, Burn, Targett; Longstaff, Joelinton, Guimares; Almiron, Wilson, Saint-Maximin

Our Prediction

Even though it’s a must-win for Burnley, we think that Newcastle will get the better of them because of the quality football they are playing at the moment under Howe.

Score Prediction: Burnley 1-3 Newcastle United
