Callum Hudson Odoi joins Leverkusen on loan

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson Odoi has completed a loan move to Bayer Leverkusen for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old hasn’t played a single match with Chelsea this season. Moreover, he had merely 15 appearances to his name in the Premier League last season. The deal was on the verge of a collapse in the late stages. However, the deal went through because of Hudson Odoi’s agent and brother Bradley. This is the first time Hudson Odoi is getting loaned out by the club. However, it is to be noted that Chelsea has a recall option inserted in the deal. This means that they can recall the player in the January transfer window.

Callum Hudson Odoi has revealed that he talked to his team mate Kai Havertz about the move to Germany. Hudson Odoi said:

“The move to Germany is really exciting for me and I can play in the Champions League with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. That combination is really attractive and I’m keen to get to know the club, the fans and the Bundesliga. Kai Havertz only had good things to say about it to me in the Chelsea dressing room.”

Leverkusen’s statement on the deal with Hudson Odoi

Bayer Leverkusen put out an official statement confirming the signing of Hudson Odoi. The statement reads as:

Callum Hudson-Odoi will spend the rest of the 2022/23 season on loan in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. The Cobham graduate moves to the Bundesliga for the rest of the campaign, having been an unused substitute in our last three Premier League fixtures. The Blues have the option to recall Callum in January. Hudson-Odoi will now have the chance to enjoy regular top-flight and European football at Leverkusen, who finished third in the Bundesliga last season and have been drawn in Group B of the Champions League, alongside Atletico Madrid, Bruges and Porto.”
