Callum Hudson-Odoi left out of the project, expected to leave this summer

Famous journalist Fabrizio Romano has clarified the rumours surrounding Callum Hudson-Odoi and his future with Chelsea. Romano confirmed that Hudson-Odoi will most likely try and leave Chelsea this summer. The descision comes after the English winger was reportedly told that he isn’t a part of Chelsea’s new project under Mauricio Pochettino.

Hudson-Odoi has been tipped to leave the club since last season. The 22-year old has failed to make a major impact at the club. He has never been considered an important part of the squad at Chelsea. The player has also been unsettled at the club since the last season, because of this reason.

Considered an exciting young prospect once, Hudson-Odoi burst into the Chelsea first team at just the age of 17. In his first few seasons, the Englishman was developing as a future star for the Blues. He even started his first game for Chelsea at just the age of 18. Injuries have been a concern with Hudson-Odoi, but not a very big one. The major reason for his decline at Chelsea appears to be the lack of trust in him. Since Frank Lampard’s departure as Chelsea’ manager in 2020, the 22-year old winger has struggled a lot with his playing time. The major reason for his frustration with the Blues.

As a result, Hudson-Odi has been exploring the opportunities to move away from Stamford Bridge since last summer. He went on a season-long loan to Bayer Leverkusen in 2022, with an option to buy. However, Bayer didn’t sign Callum on a permanent deal because of his average performance with them last season. Since coming back, Hudson-Odi has been training with Chelsea’s team, looking for options to move on.

Fulham deal off, Nottingham Forest amongst other clubs looking to sign Hudson-Odoi

Romano, via his official Twitter account, confirmed that Fulham had a verbal agreement with Hudson-Odoi for a permanent transfer. The news was posted on 28th July by Romano.

According to The Hard Tackle, Fulham were willing to pay £4 million for Hudson. The Blues counter offered and demanded £8 million, which was considered ‘too much‘ by Fulham. As a result, the deal collapsed.

It obviously is pretty sad to see even £8 million seem too much for such a young and talented player, for whom once Chelsea rejected a £40 million bid from Bayern Munich.

Despite Fulham being out, plenty of other clubs are still looking to sign Hudson-Odoi. According to the latest reports, Nottingham Forest have now emerged as the favourites to sign the 22-year old. With Nottingham’s star forward, Brennan Johnson being linked to some of the top clubs in England and potentially leaving this summer, Forest feel Hudson-Odoi will be the perfect replacement for Johnson. No official move has yet been made by Forest but it looks like a bid could be coming in the way of Chelsea in the next few days.
