Ferrari and Carlos Sainz were all ready to support Charles Leclerc in any manner in Abu Dhabi.
The 2022 season reached Abu Dhabi with a lot still to be decided. The one key talking point of the race was the battle between Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez. Both the drivers were fighting for the P2 in the drivers’ standings.
In the end, Leclerc came triumphed securing P2 in Abu Dhabi and the drivers’ standings. However, the battle was close as Leclerc’s better strategy helped him in the end.
Leclerc’s teammate Carlos Sainz was also involved in his battle. Sainz was fighting Hamilton for the fourth in the drivers standings. Regardless, he also won his battle coming home in P4.
Both Ferrari drivers started alongside in the second row. The team orders regarding the start was clear to the drivers.
“I think we worked as a team,”
said Sainz.
“I had clear instructions before the race to not fight him at the start or around the pit stops.
“We executed a good weekend in that sense and I am happy for him, honestly, because I really think he deserves that P2.”
Leclerc deserves the reward
Charles Leclerc was the main title rival at the start of the season before Max Verstappen and red bull ultimately capitalized on the mistakes of the Ferrari team.
The Monegasque in the end was fighting neck in neck with Sergio Perez. Carlos Sainz thinks Leclerc deserved the P2 after his immense fight:
“I think he deserved to finish second this year,”
Sainz added.
“He has been super-strong all year with this generation of cars. He has been driving extremely well and I may have to adapt and change a bit my driving to try and be closer to him.
“Congrats, because he did a great season on his side on his driving and he deserves that P2 in front of Checo.”
