Anfield legend Jamie Carragher claims Liverpool new signing Ryan Gravenberch reminds him of former Arsenal midfielder Patrick Veira.
Liverpool had a brilliant start to the season despite their controversial defeat against Tottenham Hotspur last week. VAR made a blunder by disallowing Luis Diaz’s goal due to offside.
However, Gravenberch is in brilliant run of form since this joining the Reds on the deadline day this summer. He even scored his first goal for Liverpool this week.
The Dutch midfielder opened his account against Belgian outfit Union SG in the Europa League. After the match, Jurgen Klopp praised Gravenberch for his brilliant performance ah he got standing ovation from the Anfield crowd at the end.
Carragher now claims that Gravenberch reminds him of Arsenal legend Patrick Veira due to his tall stature and physicality. He said :-
“As for Gravenberch, he hasn’t played as much, you are looking at the potential and thinking it could be something really special there.
“You are seeing signs of that, the way he moves and glides past people. There is something there and, if Klopp and his staff can make that into something good, we could have a really special player.
“Just looking at him, he looks like a footballer: the size, the physique. He reminds me a little bit of Vieira, that way he glides through with the ball. You can see signs of that.”
Meanwhile, Gravenberch’s old coach Brian Tevreden once compared him with Frank Rijkaard and Paul Pogba. He said :-
“Physically, I see Rijkaard in him from back in the day because he’s tall and very strong.
“But technically, I would say he’s a better version of Pogba in his best days at Juventus, in terms of his technique and his presence on the pitch.”
