Manchester United have signed Casemiro from Real Madrid in a deal worth £70m. Casemiro was presented as a United player on Monday ahead of their clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford. The Brazilian joined Manchester United on a four-year contract with an option to extend it for a further year. United paid a fee of £60m, with £10 million in add-ons, to Real for the services of the player.

Casemiro is a versatile player who plays mostly as a defensive midfielder. Moreover, Casemiro can also play as a box-to-box midfielder as well. Casemiro might not be superbly gifted in the technical area but makes it up with his intelligence and awareness on the pitch. He is physically strong, and aggressive with a high work rate. In his five years with Real Madrid, he was a rock in the midfield, solid and dependable at all times. Moreover, his aggressive and energetic style of play has earned him the nickname “The Tank”.

A defensive midfielder was high on the priority list for United this season. United signed Christian Eriksen to improve the depth in their midfield. United were also pushing for Frenkie De Jong this season. However, the deal failed to materialize as De Jong wanted to stay at Camp Nou. Now, with the signing of Casemiro, United can breathe a sigh of relief.

Erik Ten Hag on Casemiro

Speaking to Sky Sport, Ten Hag praised the signing of the Brazilian and dubbed him the ‘cement between the stones.

He is the cement between the stones. That’s what we have looking for in the summer.

Moreover, Ten Hag also talked about the winning mentality that Casemiro will bring to the squad. Ten Hag also emphasised that Casemiro will be a great guide for the young players in the team.

“Casemiro has won so many trophies in his career, he knows the road: how you win games and finally how you win trophies. We have more players who have won already many trophies in their career. That has to be a guidance for the rest of the team so they know and they understand how to win games.”
