Scottish club Celtic are eyeing a deal for Barnsley left-back Callum Styles in the upcoming transfer window. Celtic have not yet found their ideal replacement for Kieran Tierney since his departure to the Premier League.

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has tried many players in the left-back position but none of them has performed to his liking. The Greek-Australian manager is looking to find a long-term solution for their left-back problem.

As claimed by The Sun, The Hoops have identified Barnsley’s Callum Styles as a potential long-term solution. Callum Styles has been a stand-out performer for the Oakwell Stadium outfit.

The Scottish club was also linked with Derby‘s Lee Buchanan earlier this season. Callum Styles will join a list of players that are on Celtic’s radar.

Barnsley has struggled since former manager Valérien Ismaël left the side to manage West Bromwich Albion. They are in a relegation battle this season, sitting 23rd on the table.

Callum Styles is a versatile player who has been deployed in a number of positions this season. The Englishman has been used as a left-sided midfielder and even through the middle. But he has spent the majority of his time as a left-back for the Tykes.

The 21-year-old joined Barnsley back in 2018 when he moved there from Bury as a talented teenager. Since then, he has made regular appearances for the Tykes. He has made 21 appearances for the Championship side this season.

Is Barnsley’s Callum Styles the solution for Celtic?

Celtic are 2nd on the table, 7 points behind arch-rivals Rangers with a game in hand. They need to strengthen their squad to challenge the Rangers for the title. Finding a left-back is a priority for the Hoops as they have only one natural left-back in Greg Taylor.

Callum Styles has signed a contract with Barnsley till 2023 and nothing short of a million could see him move the incoming window.

The Scottish side has also been linked with Hibernian’s Josh Doig who could be on the move in the coming transfer window.

Callum Styles could be a good fit for the Hoops but his contract is nowhere near its expiry date. It could be difficult to persuade the club to sell an important player in the middle of the season.

Celtic will make a move for the versatile Englishman sometime next month but may have to wait till summer to acquire his services.
