Champions League- Juventus 1-0 Chelsea: Match Review

Juventus played Chelsea in the Champions League second matchday where the old lady defeated the blues by a narrow gap of 1-0. Chelsea having great form this season have failed to win their last two matches. While Juventus who were having a rough patch at the start of the season has won their last two games.

Chelsea came into this match after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League. While the Blues hoping to bounce back against Juventus. The Old lady won their last Serie A fixture but lost two important forwards to injury, Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata. Following which Juventus were predicted to have a poor attack against Chelsea.

Both the sides came wining their fixture in the Champions League matchday one, while both hoping to get a win this time also. But only one side came on the top as the match finished. And it was a shocking result for Chelsea as they were defeated by a 1-0 scoreline against Juventus.

The Blues played most of the game with more possession and shots, but only one goal from Federico Chiesa flopped Chelsea’s plan. Following Juventus’ win against Chelsea, the old lady currently sits top in Group H with 6 points. And Chelsea sits second with 3 points in two games.

Juventus 1-0 Chelsea: Starting XI

Juventus opted for a 4-3-3 formation to play against Chelsea in the match, with the goalkeeping position given to Wojciech Szczesny. The old lady had a four-player defense, with Dani Silva in the right-back; Leonardo Bonucci, and Matthijs de Ligt as the center-back pairing; and Alex Sandro as left-back. The midfield was held by Rodrigo Bentancur, Manuel Locatelli, and Adrien Rabiot. Juventus’ three-man attack consisted of Juan Cuadrado in right-wing; Federico Bernardeschi as number 9; and Federico Chiesa was deployed in the left-wing.

Chelsea had opted for a 3-4-2-1 formation against Juventus, with trusted Edouard Mendy between the sticks. In front of Mendy was a three-man defense consisting of Andreas Christensen in the right, Thiago Silva in the middle, and Antonio Rudiger in the left. The midfield had four players consisting of Cesar Azpilicueta as a right wing-back, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the middle, and Marcos Alonso as a left wing-back. In front of these four were Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz. While Romelu Lukaku was playing the main striker.

Starting of the game Chelsea looked more confident to win the game as they were holding the ball and keeping possession. Following which Juventus stayed back with defending most of the time. The old lady defenders had a great task as the blues were constantly playing in the ball into the box. And Juventus did a decent job to not Chelsea score a goal.

The blues despite having more possession and ball putting the ball into the box failed to score a goal. While Lukaku the main man upfront for Chelsea looked mostly lost in the game. Following this, the first half of the match ended with both the side failing to score any goal.

Starting the second half Juventus got into the lead in just 10 seconds of the match started. The old lady had a quick attack into the Chelsea half with Federico Chiesa getting the goal with his left foot shot. After that, the same story repeated as the first half.

Chelsea looking to get the equalizer failed to get past the Juventus defense, as all the four black and white players stood like a wall. While the Juventus midfielders were backing down to help with the defense. Despite shooting 16 shots at the Juventus goal Chelsea found only 1 shot on target. While having 72% ball possession in the game didn’t help the blues. It looked like a bad day for Chelsea as the Thomas Tuchel boys lost 1-0 against the struggling Juventus side.
