Chelsea 3-1 Southampton Post Match Analysis

Chelsea faced Southampton in the recently Game Week of the Premier League. While the game did shake the feet of Chelsea players following the penalty call. Chelsea won the game with ease with the scoreline being 3-1 after the final whistle. Following the game, Chelsea is on top of the league with 16 points on the table. While Southampton fell to the 17th position closer to the relegation zone in the league. It must be stated that following this game Chelsea have won 3 out of the 4 games at home.



During the Chelsea Southampton game, Chelsea had 62% possession of the ball while Southampton had 38%. Chelsea dominated most of the game taking around 20 shots during the game. From which 9 shots were on target and 5 were blocked. Chelsea started the game with quite an intensity to their game. While not sitting back similar to the Manchester City game last week. Chelsea scored the first goal in the 9th minute following in a corner. Trevoh Chalobah headed the ball at the last moment following an R. Loftus-Cheek flick on of the ball. Until the first half of the game, the game was quick neck and neck between the two teams.

Southam Came Close to Causing Another Upset Against Chelsea

Following the start of the second half, Chelsea had complete domination of the ball against Southampton. They completed 327 passes during the next 45 minutes most of them being forward and toward the opponent’s goal. Southampton equalized in the 61st minute. This came after Southampton was given a penalty following a foul in the box. But in the 77th minute, the dynamics of the game as James Ward-Prowse received a yellow card. After a VAR check the card decision was changed to a red Card.

Following this, Chelsea went all guns blazing and scored their second goal during the 84th minute. Timo Werner scored his first goal of the season. This goal came following a low cross by César Azpilicueta. The final goal was scored by the returning Ben Chilwell in the 89th minute. Ben Chilwell who made his first start in the season scored from the 18-yard box.

One player who went under the radar is Romelu Lukaku who hasn’t scored in the last three games of the season. While Chelsea is still trying to formulate their best-attacking lineup. Romelu Lukaku will need to step up his form and start scoring or providing assists.
