Chelsea have completed their sixth major signing for the season in the form of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Aubameyang signs for Chelsea for a fee of €12m from Barcelona. The Gabon international flew to London on the deadline day to complete his medical and finalize the deal. Aubameyang will wear the infamous number 9 shirt for his stint at Chelsea.

Aubameyang moved to Barcelona from Arsenal on a free transfer last January. The reason for his departure was due to a falling out with Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta. Moreover, this move was possible due to the insistence of Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel was keen to work with his ex-player who scored a total of 79 goals for him in Borussia Dortmund. Moreover, the Chelsea manager will be hoping that Aubameyang can help fill the drought of goals that currently persists at Chelsea. Chelsea have scored a total of six goals in their 4 matches so far. The lack of edge in the final third of the pitch has proven to be a hindrance to Chelsea’s start. Due to this lack of clinical finishing, the Blues sit at number 10 in the League table.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel speaks up on the transfer of Aubameyang

Tuchel was elusive on the topic of Aubameyang all through the transfer window. However, with the transfer window closed and the transfer of Aubameyang sealed, Tuchel gushed about the player in Chelsea’s pre-match conference against West Ham.

“We know very well what we get with Auba, and he was very keen to come back to the Premier League. Hopefully he can be that good again. We are very happy we could make it happen. He has delivered everywhere he has played. Goals, but more importantly speed and work-rate against the ball. It’s a big package he can bring to our group. The more challenges, the better. If he wants to overcome the ‘number nine curse’, or show somebody in London he is better than people think about him, the more the better because he is up for that and he is happy”
