Chelsea have signed Graham Potter as their new manager on a five-year deal. Moreover, in a departure from the usual norm at Chelsea, the new owners will back the manager even if he fails to achieve top 4 in this season. The owners will also back Graham Potter in the January transfer window as well. Primary among their list will be a new midfielder to succeed N’Golo Kante.
N’Golo Kante is an integral player for Chelsea. He is a player who is not for sale according to Chelsea. However, the player has underperformed severely for the past few months due to his injuries. It looks like the hard work put in is finally catching up to him. However, it is unquestionable that Kante is a world-class game changer. Chelsea will be foolhardy to let him go without a proper replacement in place.
Chelsea won’t have to look far as one such replacement is available to them. Potter’s former club Brighton Hove Albion currently holds the contract for Moses Caicedo. Graham Potter will be very keen to buy Caicedo this summer. Caicedo has taken the Premier League by storm since breaking into the first team. Caicedo’s contract with Brighton ends this year. A swoop by the Blues for the player cannot be discounted. Earlier Brighton had rejected a £42.5 million bid from Liverpool from Caicedo. However, with the player’s contract ending this season, there is a high chance that we could see him in the Chelsea blue next summer
Kante rejects Chelsea contract extension
N’Golo Kante has rejected the latest contract extension offer by Chelsea. Chelsea are ready to offer him a contract for two years with an option for an extra year. However, the 31-year-old has rejected the offer and has asked for a three-year deal with an option to extend for a further year. The management is hesitant to give such a long contract to Kante because of his injuries. Kante missed 16 games last season due to various injuries and illnesses. This season too, he has been sidelined after a hamstring injury on matchday 2 against Tottenham Hotspurs in the Premier League.
