Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta have reportedly emerged as a target for Real Madrid for the next transfer window. After spending nearly a decade with Chelsea, the 33-year-old player was looking for a new challenge in his career. Barcelona had shown interest in the player over the summer. But after a few talks with the new Chelsea owner, he decided against it. Since then Azpilicueta have remained a key player in the squad, with him starting 10 games and seven substitute appearances across all competitions. But naturally, with Reece James being the first-choice right-back, it is obvious that Azpilicueta will not be a priority at the club. Now reports suggest that Real Madrid have shown interest in the Chelsea player. Sources suggest that Madrid might be ready to offer €10m for his sign.
Real Madrid to be interested in 33-year-old Chelsea player
Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vasquez are Carlos Ancelotti’s top choices for a right-back. The Chelsea player definitely is not a top priority for Ancelotti’s team. Though the duo have their contracts till 2024 and 2025 respectively. However Real Madrid might part ways with two of their key players at the end of the year. Reports suggest that the Spanish team might possibly make a move. Nacho and Jesus Vallejo can for a move as they both barely featured in any of the games this season. Although both players are center backs it’s believed that Azpilicueta’s versatility will be much appreciated. Azpilicueta’s experience and low transfer fee might turn things in Madrid’s favor. That is if they decide to make an offer to the player.
Azpilicueta is a very highly regarded player in the Spanish national team. The player have made two starts in the World Cup, with them not conceding a goal for 135 minutes of play. It is unlikely for the player to start in the game against Morocco.
