Chelsea confirms the signing of Carney Chukwuemeka

Chelsea, Six Sports

Chelsea have signed talented Aston Villa midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka. The 18-year-old midfielder joins Chelsea permanently for a transfer fee of £15m. Chukwuemeka is a product of Aston Villa youth academy. Moreover, he is regarded as one of the best youth players in the country. Chelsea beat a host of European clubs such as BVB, Newcastle United, Liverpool, and Barcelona to sign the player.

The player was integral to the youth team that won the Euros this year. Carney recorded three goals and two assists in his five games for England. However, he wasn’t included in Villa’s pre-season squad despite the fantastic performance. Steven Gerrard excluded the youngster from the squad because he was dragging out contract negotiations with Aston Villa. Carney was on the radar of several European clubs but, ultimately Chelsea were successful in signing the player. This means Chelsea have effectively solidified their midfield plans for the long term. Moreover, seeing Chukwuemeka jump directly into the senior team will not be surprising. Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel played an important role in the youngster choosing the club for his future.

Chelsea have a bunch of talented youngsters in their squad. Connor Gallagher has returned from a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace and will play for the senior team under Thomas Tuchel. Billy Gilmour is another youngster who made quite an impression on Thomas Tuchel. However, an unsuccessful loan to Norwich means he might not get to play in the first team this summer. Mason Mount is one of Chelsea’s established youngsters. He is a Cobham graduate and an integral part of the senior team. Moreover, Chelsea have also signed 18-year-old MLS goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina this summer.

Chelsea transfer rumors

The Blues are also looking to reinforce their defense more and more. They are chasing the signature of Leicester City’s Wesely Fofana and Brighton’s Marc Cucurella. Chelsea have made a bid of £ 50 million for Marc Cucurella. However, Brighton are stalling the contract negotiations as they are reluctant to let Cucurella go without finding a suitable replacement for him.
