Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger admits he is flattered by reports linking him to Bayern Munich, but is only focusing on his time at Stamford Bridge.
The Germany international is yet to commit to a new deal with the Blues beyond the summer of 2022. As it stands, will be able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with clubs elsewhere from January.
Rudiger is demanding around £200,000 a week to renew terms. Reports suggest Chelsea have so far only indicated they are willing to offer around £150,000-a-week. However, the defender seems to be in no rush to make a decision on his future just yet.
Bayern to lure Rudiger away from Chelsea?
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are front-runners to sign Rudiger from Chelsea next year. However, the 28-year-old has not allowed his mind to wander, even though the Bavarians’ interest ‘honours’ him.
Speaking to reporters, Rudiger said: “Of course (Bayern’s interest) honours me and proves that I’ve been doing things right. But I don’t let myself be distracted.
“I have an obligation to my club to perform well. I have to prove myself every game and not let myself be distracted by rumours. I make my decisions for myself. They don’t depend on anyone. I feel good where I am.”
Rudiger has transformed his fortunes at Stamford Bridge since the arrival of fellow German Thomas Tuchel at the beginning of the year. The German centre-back was key to Chelsea winning the Champions League in the summer.
He has enjoyed a brilliant start to this season in Chelsea’s pursuit of the Premier League title. But, there is concern he could leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Rudiger has played more than 150 times for Chelsea since joining from Roma in 2017. He has won two FA Cups, the Europa League, the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup during that time.
