According to reports, Chelsea will continue their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Nkunku going into the summer transfer window. The English club have been tracking the Frenchman since October last year and was considering him as a potential winter target.

Foot Mercato claims that Chelsea have not lost their interest in Nkunku and will try to bring the striker overboard in the summer window.

A number of clubs across Europe have shown interest in Nkunku due to his splendid start to the season. He bagged 15 goals and 9 assists in all competitions before the start of the January transfer window. This includes his hattrick against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Currently, he has scored 25 goals and assisted 13 goals so far this season in all competitions. He has outscored the likes of Haaland who has been valued north of 100 million. Nkunku has also generated interest from clubs like the Manchester clubs, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint Germain.

The 24-year-old came from the Paris Saint Germain academy and made 78 appearances for the French giant’s first-team providing 15 goal involvements. He left PSG for Leipzig in the summer of 2019 and has since become a key name in their starting line-up. He has managed to appear 121 times for the German side.

Will Nkunku make a move to Chelsea in the summer?

Nkunku can be a decent alternative for Haaland as the Frenchman has produced similar numbers as the Norwegian. He would also cost a lot less than the Borussia Dortmund star. Several clubs will be in the market for a quality striker in the upcoming transfer. Clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea will be looking for a striker in the summer.

Some could argue that Chelsea have not reached the heights of last season following their European triumph. Their strikers Timo Werner and Romelu Lukaku have not exactly hit the ground running for the London side. Thomas Tuchel’s side have lost sight of the Premier League title race recently, and you cannot help but think that his team could benefit with a prolific goalscorer up front.

It seems like the right time for Nkunku to make a move, considering the International World Cup. The Frenchman is yet to make his senior debut for his national side and will be keen on participating in the upcoming World Cup.

It remains to be seen if Nkunku will get his move in the summer as Leipzig’s managing director insisted the player will play for Leipzig for yet another year. A transfer may still be on the cards if Leipzig are to receive an offer worth of £60million. Only time will tell if Chelsea will shell out the money for the talented striker
