Chelsea FC have finally completed the signings of two key players they had been linked to the entire summer. The Blues have experienced a busy transfer market so far, with significant departures and arrivals.
Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival has seen Chelsea enter a new era. With 14 players departing from the club, The Blues have undergone a phase of redevelopment. With 6 signings already completed this summer, the two new additions to the squad are major signings for the club.
Chelsea announce the signings of Robert Sànchez and Axel Disasi
Chelsea have announced the signings of their targets, Robert Sànchez from Brighton and Axel Disasi from Monaco. They made the announcements on their official social media handles. Both players had been in Pochettino’s interest since arriving at the club and now sees them become a part of his squad.
According to ESPN, Chelsea agreed a deal worth £25m with Brighton for Robert Sànchez. The 25-year old goalkeeper was a crucial part of Brighton’s squad under Graham Potter. He had some great performances under the former coach. However last season, under the management of De Zerbi, Sànchez saw his spot as the team’s first choice keeper being taken away by Jason Steele. The lack of playing time had left Sànchez disappointed, because of which he decided to make a move away from the club. Sànchez comes as a key signing for Chelsea following the departure of Edouard Mendy this summer.
While for Axel Disasi, Chelsea paid £38.5m to Monaco, to sign the talented defender on a six-year deal. The 25-year old has been labelled as a ‘strong‘ and ‘agile‘ defender. He plays as centre back for Monaco and right back for France on occasions. Disasi was ranked as one of the top defenders in Ligue 1. Being a physically strong player, he is strong in duels and one-on-one situations. He also brings a leadership character into the team as he was the vice captain of Monaco.
What is on the cards next?
Chelsea face Liverpool in their first match of the new season. They hope that their squad is in strong shape before the clash. Apart from these two signings, Chelsea hope to secure a few more signings. Their target is to sign a midfielder and a striker. Their priority for midfield still remains Moises Caicedo. As for the striker, the latest reports suggest that they are targeting a move for Juventus‘ Dusan Vlahovic. Both the signings are challenging for the Blues but only time will tell whether they will be able to secure these two signings or not.
