Chelsea Hopes Dashed as Hakim Ziyech’s Saudi Arabia Move Falls

Pochettino

The proposed £8 million transfer of Chelsea forward Hakim Ziyech to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr has fallen through. Sources from the club in the Gulf have indicated that the 30-year-old was unable to reach a final agreement on the terms of a three-year contract. It is uncertain whether Al-Nassr will revive their interest in Ziyech later in the transfer window. As club officials were left disappointed following reports of a failed medical examination.

Ziyech continues to be deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge. And he might return as a frustrated figure when Mauricio Pochettino’s squad starts pre-season.

Chelsea were open to accepting a reduced fee from Al-Nassr. Cristiano Ronaldo’s club, in order to facilitate the departure of their discontented winger from West London.

Despite coming from Ajax for £33 million in 2020, Ziyech has limited playing time last season. With the majority of his appearances coming off the bench. With two years remaining on his contract, he also experienced a failed loan move to Paris Saint-Germain in January.

Chelsea and Ziyech

Chelsea will now explore other potential clubs as possible destinations for Ziyech. Recent signings such as Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku have been in to potentially replace the Moroccan winger.

Al-Nassr is reportedly optimistic about finalizing an £8 million transfer deal for Hakim Ziyech from Chelsea. The 30-year-old has reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms for a lucrative three-year contract. Making him the latest prominent player to make a move to Saudi Arabia.

Ziyech had experienced a last-minute breakdown of a potential transfer to Paris Saint-Germain on the January deadline day, which has led to his growing disillusionment at Stamford Bridge.

Noni Madueke, who was signed in January, is already being in view as a potential replacement for Ziyech, while Chelsea has also completed the signing of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig in a £53 million deal.

Ziyech could be among several Chelsea players who might make a move to Saudi Arabia during the summer transfer window. N’Golo Kante has reportedly agreed to join Al-Ittihad, and there is speculation about Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly potentially moving to the Kingdom as well, as part of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to attract top-level European players.

Romelu Lukaku, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and Marc Cucurella have also attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League, although they would prefer to remain in Europe.
