Chelsea Ideal £115m Reece James Replacement: Not Malo Gusto

Chelsea newly appointed club captain, Reece James, has suffered a recent hamstring injury, raising concerns among fans. This injury occurred within the first week of the new Premier League season. When James was a substitute for Malo Gusto during the latter stages of the Blues’ opening weekend match against Liverpool. This substitution has left supporters speculating whether it was due to fitness concerns or if a more significant issue is at hand.

Nonetheless, in his post-match press conference, manager Mauricio Pochettino in assurance that Reece James was given a clean bill of health. Explaining that James was simply in fatigue from his preseason minutes. And the team aimed to “mitigate the risk” of a recurrence of last season’s long-term knee injury. Which had caused him to miss out on the World Cup squad in December.

Chelsea and their tactics

However, despite Pochettino’s reassurances, recent reports suggest that James might once again find himself sidelined due to injury. Temporarily passing the captain’s armband to Ben Chilwell.

The current situation leaves Chelsea with just one dedicated right-back, Malo Gusto. Who is from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the previous January transfer window but was in loan back to them until the summer.

Many view this as an opportunity for Gusto to gain valuable Premier League experience swiftly. Especially considering his impressive performances in Chelsea’s preseason matches against teams like Brighton, Wrexham, and Newcastle. However, some argue that it might not be wise to thrust the 20-year-old into the top-flight without any prior English league minutes. Mauricio Pochettino. However, may have another option up his sleeve.

Introducing the £115 million man – Moises Caicedo. While Chelsea initially signed him as a record-breaking British fee for a defensive midfielder to complement Enzo Fernandez in their new system. He possesses the versatility to perform in various positions on the field, including right-back.
