Chelsea ex-captain and legend John Terry names the player who couldn’t live up to his full potential at the club

John Terry is one of the undisputed Chelsea legends. Terry gave it all for the club on the pitch and off of it as well. Terry has won numerous accolades with Chelsea as captain. John Terry has seen Chelsea undergo numerous changes and has played with many legends. Terry spent 17 years in Chelsea and has played with a lot of players during his time. To put his career into perspective, Terry has played with the likes of Blues legends of yesteryears such as Gianfranco Zola, Dennis Wise, Gus Poyet, and Roberto Di Matteo to players such as Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, and Claude Makelele. Moreover, he has also played with a lot of relatively new Chelsea legends such as Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante, and Ceaser Azpilicueta as well.

However, when asked who was the youngster who failed to live up to his potential, Terry chose Rob Wolleaston as the player who couldn’t live up to his potential when called upon by the club. Terry made these comments in an Instagram live stream, he said:

“Probably a boy called Rob Wolleaston at Chelsea. I still know Rob now, but mentally didn’t have that to go and push himself.

“Gullit told him he was going to play in the first team in a cup game for Chelsea. He then phoned up on the day of the game and said he was sick.”

Terry on Wolleaston

“All of us, if we were sick or felt like we were at the end of the world, we would have still gone and played the game. We wouldn’t have given up that opportunity. He actually done it two or three times and he was just not mentally ready for the game at Chelsea but ability-wise, incredible.”
