According to the news outlet The Independent, Chelsea are currently leading the race to sign Everton star, Richarlison. The Brazil international is also keen to move somewhere else from Goodison Park this summer transfer window.
Now, a number of clubs registered their interest in signing the coveted striker from the blue side of Merseyside. Mostly the London clubs enquired about the availability of Richarlison including Chelsea, Arsenal, and also Tottenham Hotspurs.
On the other hand, Richarlison had a superb season for the Toffees. Although the club was on the brink of relegation most of the season, he maintained his form throughout it. Everton finished in the 16th place in the points table in Premier League, 4 points off the relegation spot. In 38 games, they managed to get only 39 points and ended with a goal difference of -23. Richarlison was key to their survival this season as he bagged 10 goals and 5 assists in 29 PL apps. He was involved in 35% of the goals scored by Everton in the Premier League (stats via Transfermarkt).
But now reports heavily link him to a move away from Everton. Meanwhile, Richarlison arrived at the Goodison Park in the summer of 2018 from Watford. The club paid a hefty transfer fee of £50 million for the then 21-year-old.
Chelsea ahead of other London clubs
The North London club Tottenham Hotspurs were once leading the race to sign the Brazilian. But now Chelsea and Arsenal also entered the race. With Arsenal more leaning towards signing Gabriel Jesus and new reports emerging also said that the Gunners Technical Director Edu Gaspar met with the agent of Raphinha, Deco, Chelsea might have an edge in signing Richarlison.
With only 2 years left on his current contract for The Toffees, the club is on the brink of losing another of its assets. This will only make life difficult for the Everton boss Frank Lampard.
