Chelsea man Conor Gallagher describes veteran teammate as a massive leader in the squad

Gallagher

Chelsea star Conor Gallagher hails veteran teammate Thiago Silva as a massive leader. Gallagher said Silva is huge influencer even without captain’s armband. With Chelsea having a pretty young squad, it is a big question who will emerge as a senior figure. After the departure of Cesar Azpilicueta, Reece James was handed over the skipper’s responsibility. Though, in his absence, Ben Chilwell has also been the team leader. At few occasions, even Gallagher has acted as the captain. The presence of players like Raheem Sterling and Thiago Silva gives the team a balance of young and experienced players.

However, Gallagher made a special mention to the role of veteran Brazil international on the Blues. Despite being 39 years old, Silva has played every match in this Premier League season so far. Moreover, he is a vital part of their backline at times. Although, James is the captain, no one in the squad, not even Pochettino can deny the influence of the Brazilian. Speaking to The Telegraph, Gallagher said,

Reece James has been one of Chelsea’s best players in recent years when he’s been fit and he’s come through the academy, so he got the armband. You could say Thiago Silva but everyone knows he is a leader that doesn’t need an armband, he’s still a massive leader on the pitch himself.”

Silva needs no lauding or praise from Gallagher to prove him

A player of Thiago’s quality and experience does not need any scream or recognition by words. Infact, James must also be learning a lot from him everyday on and off the field. The centre-back has maintained his standard in the top flight even at this stage of his career. Remarkably, he joined the Blues on a free transfer from PSG in 2020. Moreover, he was a pivotal part of the Chelsea side that won the Champions league back in 2021.It will be a great experience for youngsters like Disasi, Levi Colwill and Badiashile to learn from one of the greats of the position.
