Chelsea wants to sign Ismael Bennacer in the January transfer window. This is according to Calciomercato, which has stated that Chelsea boss Graham Potter wants to sign the midfielder from San Siro to enhance his squad. However, AC Milan are trying their hardest to get Benaccer to sign a new contract with them to extend his stay. Benaccer’s current contract expires in 2024.

Bennacer has had 114 appearances for Milan so far. He had a stint in the Premier League with the rivals of Chelsea, and Arsenal. However, he only has one appearance for the senior side from 2015 to 2017. With two main midfielders of Chelsea out of contract by the end of the season, the Blues could do well by signing some new players. Jorginho and Kante will see their contract at Stamford Bridge expire at the end of the season. Kante has been made an offer by the club which he has rejected. He had an offer for an extension of two years with an option of an extra year but the Frenchman wants a three-year deal with an option to extend it for another year.

Chelsea manager Graham Potter wants players who fit into his style of play

According to Calciomercato, Graham Potter is adamant about Bennacer’s move to Chelsea. The new manager thinks that the player fits perfectly into his playing style. Bennacer would be a good signing for Chelsea. His technical ability has made him one of the unsung heroes at San Sirio. Now, Potter could use this technical ability at Stamford Bridge. The only midfielder that Chelsea signed this summer was Dennis Zakaria on loan from Juventus. However, the Blues need more quality in their ranks if they want to build a squad that will consistently challenge for trophies in the coming seasons.
