Chelsea may bid farewell to unsuccessful midfield loanee: Right thing to do for Tuchel?

Saul Niguez has failed to impress Tuchel with his limited performances in the Chelsea midfield. According to the Spanish outlet Marca, Chelsea are planning to cancel Saul’s loan spell by January. The 26-year-old midfielder has also struggled to get in the starting lineup of Chelsea.

Saul has only played 239 minutes in his five appearances for the club. Although Saul has played some of the best football of his life at Atletico Madrid, he has failed to mirror those performances at Chelsea. He was given a league start versus Aston Villa but was taken off at half-time for Jorginho. The Spanish midfielder was also not included in the last six games and it looks like he does not have a place in Tuchel’s plans for Chelsea.

Atletico Madrid was able to finance their move for Antoine Griezmann because of Saul’s exit. As a result, Atletico is not expecting Saul to return after just half a season. There is no such clause in the contract which can help Chelsea to move forward with the termination.

Tuchel does not seem to include Saul in Chelsea midfield plans

Saul has failed to step on the pitch in the last six matches for Chelsea. Tuchel also withdrew him after half-time on his Premier League debut against Aston Villa. The Chelsea boss has given him very few chances to prove himself. This highlights how Tuchel does not include Saul in his midfield plans for Chelsea.

Saul is also frustrated with the lack of game time. Considering the experience he has in big games and in the Champions League, he may not have expected this treatment. But the Spanish international has struggled to cope with the pace of Premier League football.

Atletico Madrid not ready for Saul’s return

Saul has a contract with Los Colchoneros until the summer of 2026. They wanted to fund their move for Griezmann and decided to loan out Niguez. However, they did not expect that he can return after half a season. They seem to have accepted the fact Chelsea won’t make the loan permanent and he will be returning to the club next summer.

Saul not willing to give up

The good thing is that Saul does want to quit his time in England. The midfielder wants to bounce back and become victorious with his stint at Chelsea. However, he faces very tough competition in midfield from Mason Mount, Jorginho, and N’Golo Kante. But he surely can try to adapt to the English setting if he is given more opportunities in the midfield for Chelsea which depends on Mr. Tuchel.
