Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic is not happy with the performance of the referee in the World Cup. He has also accused him of giving away a soft penalty against Croatia.

However, he has also praised Argentina and Messi for their performance. Hence, the midfielder’s focus will be on winning the third place play-off against Morocco.

CHELSEA WILL BE VERY HAPPY WITH THE PERFORMANCES OF MATEO KOVACIC IN THE WORLD CUP

A number of people expected Croatia to get eliminated from the World Cup in the round of 16 or from the group stage. This was despite their brilliant form in the Euros and other internationals. However, Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic and his other Croatia teammates have proved the people wrong. They managed to reach the World Cup semi-final this year. Croatia also managed to eliminate the favourites Brazil from the World Cup this year.

Hence, in this brilliant performance, Mateo Kovacic played a very important role for the team. The Chelsea midfielder has helped his team in defence and attack. Hence, many people have called him an all-around player. Therefore, it clearly shows that he will be one of the most important players for the Blues in the second half of the season. However, it is clear that Kovacic does not censor his words. He has openly criticized the decision-making of the referee in the World Cup semi-final against Argentina.

CROATIAN MIDFIELDER HAS CRITICIZED THE PERFORMANCE OF THE REFEREE IN THE WORLD CUP

Mateo Kovacic was disappointed with the 3-0 loss against Argentina in the World Cup semi-final. However, the main reason was not the performance of their players. It was the performance of the referee. The Croatian midfielder was not happy with penalty given to Argentina after the foul on Julian Alvarez. Hence, he criticized the post-match interview. However, he has also praised the performance of Lionel Messi and the Argentina team. He has also asked his team to focus on the third-place play-off.

The Chelsea midfielder further said,

It’s hard for me to comment at all, I don’t know what to say. We did our best, if we could have done better – we could. The team got beat with a penalty, but what’s there is. We wanted to enter the final, but we will fight for third place. Both situations are unbelievable to me – first that it was not a corner, and then a penalty… I never commented on the referees, but these are cardinal mistakes and it cost us. “We knew they were aggressive, that they were good and that they had Messi. Today he was phenomenal, he should be congratulated.

Hence, it looks like Mateo Kovacic will come back to Chelsea with more ambition and determination. However, he will have to first have to help Croatia win against Morocco. This will help them finish in third place. However, he will miss a number of matches for the Blues. He will get a break after returning from the World Cup in Qatar.
