Alvarez will travel to Manchester this weekend in preparation for the 2022–23 season. He will be unveiled to the City fans along with fellow newcomers Erling Halland, Kalvin Phillips and Stefan Ortega.

Alvarez is one of South America’s top talents and will wear the number 19 jersey at his new club. He leaves River Plate with a career total of 53 goals and 31 assists in 120 senior matches across all competitions.

Alvarez On His New Chapter

In his first interview on the club website, Julian Alvarez was quite excited. He praised City’s dominance in the previous years and is thrilled to be a part of that team.

This is, without doubt, one of the biggest teams in world football. You only have to see what this team has won in the last decade to understand the quality of the setup. I feel confident I can flourish here. The style of play encourages is exciting and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

I am so thankful for everything River Plate did for me and I want to thank the fans, staff and players for their support. But I am now 100% focused on Manchester City. I want to give my best to this club, help my teammates and contribute to Manchester City’s success.

Alvarez went on to rave over the Argentine contingent that shone for the Cityzens in previous years, and expressed a desire to emulate them.

City has an amazing recent history of Argentinian players.  I want to put my stamp on the club in the same way Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta and Carlos Tevez did.

City fans will surely hope that Alvarez can replicate Aguero’s success for them. With him and Halland up top, they now have two of the most promising young strikers in world football.
