Chelsea signed midfielder Denis Zakaria on the last day of the transfer window. Zakaria joins Chelsea on a loan move with an option to buy included in the deal. The Blues will need to pay £ 30 million to make the midfielder’s move to Stamford Bridge a permanent one. It has been revealed now that Zakaria will wear the number 20 jersey for his stint at Chelsea. This number was allotted to youngster Callum Hudson Odoi who departed Stamford Bridge on a loan to Bayer Leverkusen.

Zakaria was a major arrival for Chelsea on the deadline day along with Aubameyang. Chelsea lacks depth in the midfield after splurging in the defense department this season. Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly, Cucurella arrived as reinforcement for the defense of Chelsea. In the forward’s department, Chelsea signed Aubameyang and Sterling. Moreover, the only player in the midfield was Denis Zakaria on a loan. Thomas Tuchel commented on this fact:

“It was related maybe not to the numbers that we should have in midfield but actually have in midfield. This was maybe a last-minute or last days option. That was kind of on top of what was needed. He gives us in my opinion a lot of options because he has a lot of speed, height and physicality to bring to this group”

Zakaria is yet to play a match for Chelsea

Denis Zakaria missed the London Derby against West Ham on Saturday due to work permit issues. However, he will be available for the first Champions League match of the season for Chelsea against Zagreb. Thomas Tuchel said this when asked about Zakaria’s appearance in the League for this weekend.

“No. I think we need to work on the latest information and understand that we need to work on the work permit. He will not be in the squad for tomorrow – it’s too close. We hope for Tuesday and then for Fulham.”
