Chelsea offer Christensen and Rudiger new deals

Chelsea have put forward contract extensions to defensive duo Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger. Since Tuchel took over in January 2021, Chelsea have been the side in form in Europe. They have been crowned Champions of Europe and have begun their Premier League campaign strongly with two convincing wins.

The two centre-backs have become integral parts of Thomas Tuchel’s setup. But their futures at Stamford Bridge are far from secure at the moment. Both Christensen and Rudiger will carry the free agent status at the end of this season.

Christensen has allegedly drawn interest from Sevilla amid Chelsea’s interest in Jules Kounde. Uncertainty reportedly shrouds Rudiger’s future as well.

Chelsea Christensen Rudiger- The Dynamic Duo

Former boss Frank Lampard froze Rudiger out of the first-team. However, Tuchel’s arrival handed the German a fresh start at Chelsea life.

The former AS Roma man amassed 34 outings across all competitions last term. He was instrumental in his side’s sprint to Champions League glory and a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.

The German revealed, ahead of his side’s UEFA Super Cup win over Villarreal in early August that discussions had begun with the club over the possibility of extending his stay at Stamford Bridge.

Christensen made 27 appearances in all competitions over the course of the 2020/21 campaign. He remains a solid backup option to Thiago Silva. The Blues will carefully manage the Brazilian veteran’s game-time in his second seaso.

Chelsea view Christensen and Rudiger as vital to the club’s future. They have tabled new contract extensions to their center halves in the hope of retaining their services. Chelsea remain vested in their pursuit for a move for Kounde.

The most likely candidate to depart Stamford Bridge is Kurt Zouma. The Frenchman is in negotiations with West Ham United in a deal worth £26,000,000.

Rudiger and Christensen have both featured Chelsea’s Premier League wins over Crystal Palace and Arsenal. The Blues’ next test is a trip to Anfield on Saturday.
