Reports suggest that Chelsea has made a significant offer to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in their pursuit of securing the signature of Kylian Mbappe during this summer’s transfer window.
The 24-year-old forward has quickly emerged as one of the most sought-after players in the market. After it came out earlier this month that he had informed PSG in writing that he would not be activating an extension to his contract. Consequently, he could leave the club on a free transfer in 12 months. It will force PSG to consider negotiating a new deal or accepting the highest offer this summer.
While Real Madrid appears to be the most probable destination for Mbappe, having previously made attempts to sign the French international. Premier League clubs Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United have also been linked with the player.
FIFA agent Marco Kirdemir recently suggested that Liverpool is prepared to pay €300 million for Mbappe this summer. However, Fabrizio Romano, a reputable journalist, confirmed on Wednesday what many already suspected. He said that no concrete developments have taken place between Liverpool and Mbappe. PSG’s position remains clear – either Mbappe signs a new contract or departs the club this summer. This stance has been held by PSG for the past two weeks.
Will Chelsea be able to sign Mbappe through this swap deal?
Now, according to the Spanish publication Nacional, Chelsea has made an offer in an ambitious attempt to entice Mbappe to Stamford Bridge. The reported offer consists of €120 million (£103 million) and a selection of four players. This highlights Chelsea’s willingness to explore all avenues to secure the transfer.
Chelsea’s newly appointed manager, Mauricio Pochettino has previously coached Mbappe at PSG. He is keen to reunite with his former protégé and aims to leverage the player’s contractual situation.
The four players mentioned as potential components of the negotiations are Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, Cesar Azpilicueta, and Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea hopes that by including these players, they can potentially reduce PSG’s significant asking price for Mbappe. It ranges from €150 million to €200 million.
The report also suggests that Sterling, who joined Chelsea just a year ago. He could serve as a replacement for Mbappe at PSG, as he has been unable to meet expectations at his current club.
Cucurella and Azpilicueta might also be the possible inclusions in the deal. Furthermore, Pochettino would reportedly be open to allowing Romelu Lukaku to depart for PSG. If it facilitates Mbappe’s arrival at Chelsea.
