Chelsea FC’s quest to sign a striker is still going on. Despite the signings of Christopher Nkunku and Nicholas Jackson, the need of another attacker seems crucial. The Blues have been linked to multiple strikers this summer but haven’t made any progress with them.
Dusan Vlahovic was, at one point of time, Chelsea’s top target as they eyed a swap deal with Juventus, involving Lukaku and Vlahovic. However, the deal collapsed, reportedly after the Juventus’ ultras protested against the signing of Lukaku.
Chelsea’s need for a striker has become more serious after their 3-1 loss to West Ham on Sunday. Clearly without Nkunku, Chelsea’s attack is not able to function properly and sharply. Also with just 7 days left in this transfer market window, Chelsea will be looking to quickly sign a strong striker.
Chelsea are eyeing Folarin Balogun for a desperate yet interesting move
In a suprising turn of events, Chelsea are now eyeing a move for the talented, young player Folarin Balogun from Arsenal. From being linked to some of the top strikers in the world, they now target an unproven talent. But such is the club’s need as well. However, Balogun isn’t a completely unproven player.
Despite being an unproven player in the Premier League, Balogun is labelled as a special talent with amazing qualities. His performance in the Ligue 1 last season were proofs of his ‘freightning‘ potential. He scored 21 goals and provided 3 assists in 37 games. He was easily one of the best players in the French League. Balogun even played in the PL2 and the PL U-18s. He made both the competitions look ‘too easy‘ for him. His incredible consistency and abilities as a striker as made him a top target for many clubs this summer.
Arsenal and Arteta have realised that it will be almost ‘impossible‘ to keep Balogun with them in his current role. With them not being able offer him a position in the first team, a transfer seems inevitable. Even though he hasn’t played a single minute at Arsenal this season, there a lot of clubs who are willing to make him their main striker. Chelsea being one of them.
Chelsea will be quite aware of the intense competition that they will face in the race for Balogun. According to BBC, Monaco, Inter Milan and Fulham are the clubs, apart from Chelsea, who are targeting a move for the American striker. With all the interest, Arsenal are also expected to ask a big amount for Balogun. Reportedly, the Gunners will ask for a fee close to €50m. This could come as a big blow for Chelsea, as they have already spent a staggering €385m. Therefore, spending another €50m, that too on a young striker might not seem feasible for the Blues.
