Chelsea plan a ‘suprise’ offer for the World Cup winning midfielder

Chelsea are reportedly planning to make a move and try signing Leonardo Parades from PSG this summer. Chelsea have been in search of a technical and a strong defensive midfielder this summer to strengthen their midfield this summer.

Parades has enjoyed a lot of success with his national team Argentina, winning the Copa America and the World Cup in the last two years. On the other hand, his club career has rather been on an unsettling and a confusing state. The PSG player was frustrated with his lack of playing time with the club and was looking for move. He was loaned to Juventus last season on a season-long loan, which also didn’t turn out to be successful. The Argentine currently is back with PSG, hoping for offers to move on.

Parades is Chelsea’s priority in case they miss out Caicedo

According to Evening Standard, Chelsea are weighing up an offer to sign Parades as backup option for Moises Caicedo. Brighton have made the deal quite difficult for The Blues, having already rejected two of their bids for Caicedo. Brighton will not let go of their star midfielder for less than £100m, which has forced Chelsea to consider other options as well. Pochettino’s transfer plans might get completely ‘disrupted‘ if the club decides to spend £100m on Caicedo.

Leonardo Parades is not a very high profile player, the type of players that Todd Bohley has usually preferred to bring into his club. However, Pochettino values the player highly, having worked with him in the 2020/21 season at PSG.

The 29-year old has valuable experience in his bag, playing at the highest levels of football. Chelsea are in need of some leaders in their young squad, therefore someone like Parades can be a very valuable addition. Also, his technical ability is very strong. He is comfortable on the ball and also has strong playmaking skills. Also, his experience to play under Pochettino will make it easy for him to quickly settle in the club.

Chelsea still remain imminent on Caicedo. However Brighton’s asking price for the Columbian maybe a little too much for the Blues. Therefore, not just Parades, but Edson Alvarez is also in Chelsea’s plans, in case they miss out on Caicedo.
