Chelsea Planning Audacious £172m Move to Sign Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappé

According to a surprising report by Borja Díaz of Defensa Central, Chelsea is rumored to be interested in signing Kylian Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain. Despite already having several talented center-forwards such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, David Datro Fofana, Armando Broja, and the returning Romelu Lukaku. Chelsea is reportedly considering making an attempt to acquire Mbappe. Who is regarded as one of the best players in the world.

Real Madrid has also been linked with Mbappe, especially after losing Karim Benzema to Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia. Reports suggest that Real Madrid is willing to pay €200m (£172m) for Mbappe’s signature. But Chelsea could provide some competition in the race for the French international.

The proposed deal outlined by Diaz suggests that Chelsea could offer PSG up to three players in exchange for Mbappe: Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella, and Christian Pulisic. In addition, Chelsea would be willing to pay PSG €120m (£103m) as part of the deal. However, it remains uncertain whether PSG would accept such an offer.

Chelsea and their Money Minded Deals

Mbappe’s contract with PSG expires in 2024, and while PSG wants to keep him, they may consider cashing in on him early to avoid losing him for nothing. It’s worth noting that Chelsea has already spent £52m on Christopher Nkunku. So the question arises as to whether they would be willing to spend twice that amount on a single player.

Even if the report from Defensa Central is true, it is questionable whether PSG would be in interest in accepting a deal that involves Raheem Sterling, Christian Pulisic, and Marc Cucurella. Sterling had a relatively underwhelming season with six goals in 28 Premier League games. While Pulisic managed just one goal in 24 league appearances. Furthermore, Cucurella may not be in consideration for a significant addition to compensate for losing a world-class forward like Mbappe. From PSG’s perspective, this proposed deal may not be appealing due to the lack of value they would receive in return.

Considering Mbappe’s talent and the potential opportunity to join Real Madrid. It is reasonable to assume that he would prefer a move to the Spanish club over Chelsea. Real Madrid has a history of success and can offer Mbappe the chance to compete in top-tier European competitions. Which Chelsea won’t have next season as they finished in the bottom half of the Premier League. Consequently, it seems unlikely that Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea would be able to hijack a potential deal, as Real Madrid presents a more enticing option for Mbappe.
