Chelsea player ratings as they struggle to hold Manchester City

tennis player

Here we have with us the Chelsea player ratings as they fail to hold Manchester City for a draw. Chelsea could have made up some ground to put pressure on City for a title challenge. However, the Blues could not do so as City once again dominated their opposition and got their goal.

The game was once again dominated by City as they had 6 shots on target. On the other hand, Chelsea had only one shot on target. Chelsea have won just three of their last 25 matches against Manchester City while they have won 13. The Blues could have improved the record but such was not the case.

City found the net in the 70th minute with they got the ball to De Bruyne who surged toward the outside of the box and curled one into the far corner. That was the killer blow for Chelsea as they were already struggling against the Citizens. Manchester City are on a 12 match winning streak for the fourth time in history and all under Pep Guardiola.

Chelsea had already lost ground in the title challenge but could have got themselves some momentum if they had won at City. However, City are in a flying form now and it is a tough ask for any team to win against City. Liverpool now have 2 games in hand and just one point behind Chelsea. The Reds can go above the Blues on the table if they win their next match.

Chelsea Player Ratings vs Manchester City

Kepa Arrizabalaga – 6/10

Made a good save of Grealish late in the first half. It would have been too much to ask from him to save the De Bruyne effort.

Cesar Azpilicueta – 6/10

He was run down by the youngsters at City and looked exhausted in the second half against Grealish.

Antonio Rudiger – 7/10

Played in the unfavorable position of right center-back but did well to cope with City pressure.

Thiago Silva – 7/10

Did his job to assert dominance and be calm at the back. Looked comfortable despite City’s attack.

Malang Sarr – 7/10

Overall a good performance for the Frenchman but had some nervy moments and could improve more.

Marcos Alonso – 5/10

Got booked early in the 7th minute for a foul on Sterling. Moreover, Sterling tested him the whole game before he got substituted.

N’Golo Kante – 6/10

Seemed a bit off probably because of COVID. He had an energetic performance as usual but De Bruyne brushed him off for his goal.

Mateo Kovacic – 7/10

Started the game well but stepped down a bit after a yellow card. He was good but could have been quicker at times.

Hakim Ziyech – 5/10

Contributed very little to the game and Tuchel’s frustration was clear at him after his awful pass for Lukaku.

Christian Pulisic – 5/10

A quiet opening in the first half and had to be disciplined and trackback to mark Cancelo all the time.

Romelu Lukaku – 6/10

Should have taken a shot himself rather than passing to Ziyech early in the game. Also missed a second chance in the second half but was too close to Ederson.

Substitutes

Callum Hudson-Odoi – 5/10

Could not make out the best of some good situations that summed Chelsea’s day.

Timo Werner – 5/10

Drew a good block from Laporte but had some runs that were not seen by Chelsea.

Mason Mount – N/A

Did not have enough time to influence the game.
