Chelsea should get rid of Ethan Ampadu in the summer

Chelsea should get rid of Ethan Ampadu in the summer as he is unlikely to make it as a regular at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues signed Ampadu from Exeter City in 2017. But there were a lot of doubts over teenage defenders ability to succeed in the Premier League.

Ampadu had established himself as a regular with Exeter at the age of just 15. He made 13 appearances for his hometown club before his move to Chelsea the following summer.

Due to his young age, it was a low-risk signing for Chelsea. But Ampadu’s lack of game time in nearly six years suggests that he isn’t going to make it at Chelsea. Manager Graham Potter will look to offload him in the summer transfer window.

Ampadu made his Chelsea debut in the EFL Cup in the 2017/18 season. He then went on to make 12 appearances for the senior side, with his outings spread across various domestic and European cup competitions.

Ahead of the 2019/20 seasons, the Welsh International was sent on loan at RB Leipzig. But he was limited to just seven appearances, which hindered his development further. The following season, he joined Sheffield United in the Premier League. But they were relegated to the Championship. Ampadu made 25 appearances for Sheffield during his loan spell.

This season, he has been a regular for Spezia in Seria A. Ampadu has made 22 appearances in the Italian top flight, but his standards cannot be compared to being a first-team player at Chelsea.

But on the contrary, Ampadu’s 41 caps for Wales means that he has played more for his country than any other side.

Potter will cash in on Ampadu this summer to ensure that his talent doesn’t go to waste.
