Chelsea had yet another poor season considering the quality of the club. The Blues were able to finish on 6th position in the Premier League only due to the strong second half of the season. However the club didn’t meet the expectations they had and these has forced them to take some crucial decisions. To make matters even worse Chelsea are on the verge to breach the profitability and sustainability rules. To get their records clean they are reported to sell a lot of their home grown players. Conor Gallagher is one of those names who Chelsea want to sell and currently is gaining a lot of attention from various clubs.
Conor Gallagher has been with Chelsea since he was 8 years old. The 24 year old midfielder’s whole family have been supporters of Chelsea. The Blues fans admire Gallagher and have shown respect for the player. Gallagher got a chance to play in his preferred position after Enzo Fernandez got injured. The English midfielder didn’t disappoint and was a key component for Pochettino. Pochettino was able to achieve five straight victories and secure 6th position in league. Chelsea were looking confident to grab europa league spot but unfortunately were sent to conference league by United. United defeating City in FA Cup final grabbed the Europa League spot from Chelsea. Chelsea board decided to sack Pochettino. The club also are reported to undergo lot of changes before the next season.
Why Chelsea want to part ways with Gallagher
Despite the promising performances by Gallagher, the Blues won’t seem to continue with him. The deadline day to submit the economical details is June 30 and Chelsea are on the verge to break the PSR rules. In an effort to stop that from happening, the Blues are doing all they can to register the sell as soon as possible. Chelsea could benefit a lot from Gallagher’s sale as it will count as pure profit because the midfielder has been with them since youth level.
Gallagher’s Chelsea contract will expire next season making him a free agent. Due to the current financial situation Chelsea are, they will not extend his contract and are hoping to receive bids for the midfielder. Chelsea are demanding amount of atleast £50 million for Gallagher. If any club fails to meet Gallagher’s requirements, he could stay at Stamford bridge for another season.
Gallagher who has been recently called up by England national team has his focus set in Euros. The 24 year old midfielder is not in any rush regarding his future. This could hurt Chelsea as the deadline is 30 June and if the deal happens after that it won’t help the club in financial books.
Along with financial situation, Gallagher’s departure is also related to tactical situation. Its been reported within the club that the english midfielder will not suit the new manager Enzo Maresca’s tactics. There is also a huge saturation in midfield position making it hard for Gallagher to continue at Stanford bridge.
Gallagher gaining a lot of attention
According to GOAL, three clubs are interested in Conor Gallagher. Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspurs and Atletico Madrid could be seen competing for the English midfielder.
Aston Villa manager Unai Emery is a huge admirer of Gallagher and wants him at the club. Villa will play champions league football next season and could use player like Gallagher to strengthen their squad. Currently Villa are only team to have shown strong interest in him. However they are also facing some financial situations regarding PSR rules.
Tottenham are interested in Gallagher from a long time. They even were linked with the midfielder in January. Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone is also looking for midfielder and has been monitoring two players. Along with Gallagher, Simeone is looking after Ross Barkley.
