Chelsea stops chasing Ivan Fresneda due to financial reason

After reporting the advancement of their negotiation, Chelsea have sadly missed the chance to sign Ivan Fresneda. The club seem to have abandoned the desire to add the player, for multiple reasons.

The Blues inquired about the player a week ago and showed great interest in him. As he may satisfy many of the club’s wants.

The club has already expressed its desire to strengthen the defence multiple times this season. In fact, 4 of the eight transferred players were defensive ones. Furthermore, Pochettino mentionned his desire to add more defenders very recently during the Luton pre-match conference.

Still, despite the appeal, non of these reasons would make Fresneda a necessity, as his addition would not be utilised at all. However, circumstances have changed.

The Blues roster suffered many injuries this season. The most notable recorded injury is that of Christopher Nkunku, which put his teammates under a lot of pressure. However the most notable for this context, was noneother than Wesley Fofana.

the Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has sustained a severe ligament injury. The player will not be participating for 4 to 6 months after his surgery, leaving room for new contestants.

Does Ivan Fresneda have a future in Chelsea ?

The short answer is probably yes, but not for now. The club had financial complications which lead to Sporting signing the player first. However, the club still has interest in the young talent and may be willing to try obtaining him next season. Something that may be costly as the player’s price will naturally rise depending on his feats in the field.

For the moment, Chelsea is trying to fill its recent defensive vacancy with signing of Marc Guehi. The £60 million rated player has yet to make a statement. And while Chelsea is in a safe position, further injuries are still a looming threat.
