Chelsea midfielder, Conor Gallagher, is being pursued by Tottenham and may decide to leave the team if he is removed from the starting lineup.
The millions of dollars that Stamford Bridge has spent during the last few transfer windows have not yet produced many benefits. Since Todd Boehly became the club’s owner less than a year ago, Chelsea has spent close to £1 billion. Due to the inability of the players to work as a team, the Blues could only accomplish a 12th-place finish the previous season.
Given their stature and the amount of money they invested, a team the size of Chelsea would have anticipated finishing significantly higher in the league.
This summer, there was a rise in spending, but the results on the pitch have yet to be seen. The Blues, managed by Mauricio Pochettino, are now 14th in the Premier League standings after five games. They have only won one game. It is obvious that the significant expenditure has yet to bear fruit. It might lead to additional issues in the future. Due to their significant spending, Chelsea has had to sell a number of academy players, including Mason Mount, Calum Hudson-Odoi, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, in order to comply with Financial Fair Play rules.
Conor Gallagher might leave Chelsea
Due to Chelsea’s spending, midfielder Gallagher may now leave the team. The Englishman “could change his stance on leaving” if he is benched before January, according to Football Insider. In the summer, he attracted interest from a few teams. But he wanted to stay to “fight for” new boss Pochettino in the hopes that he would be given a chance in his squad.
Since the beginning of the current campaign, he has started every game, twice serving as Chelsea captain. However, £115 million man Moises Caicedo and £58 million summer acquisition Romeo Lavia have yet to play. When they are available, Pochettino will undoubtedly consider both players. If Gallagher is benched, he may feel under pressure and decide to leave the team.
Tottenham increases the pressure on the Blues
Should Gallagher decide to leave the Stamford Bridge project, Tottenham might be the perfect place for him to go. The North London team put in an offer for him in the summer because they were interested and it’s been reported that they are “considering a return” in January.
The financial condition may determine Gallagher’s future at Chelsea. In fact, given that Financial Fair Play is undoubtedly still looming over them, they may need to sell him. Additionally, there have been rumours that they would consider a sale if the proper offer came in. If it is true, Tottenham might gain from that choice.
With the odds stacked against the Blues, they may be in risk of losing the star. Their significant spending may be the reason the talented young player leaves the team.
