Chelsea makes a lot of signings, but most of them fall short. Unlike the most, the former Manchester City player who had a terrific season under Pochettino claims Romeo Lavia will be the one to look out for. The former Southampton lad, who is also a Manchester City graduate, made only one appearance at Chelsea. Romeo Lavia and Cole Palmer were both in the Elite Development Squad of Manchester City under Enzo Maresca, and now both are first-team choices for Chelsea. The new manager’s prior relationship with both players has already proved to be a positive thing for the upcoming season. Although Lavia has garnered only a few touches on the field, Palmer believes he will be “impressing” everyone at Chelsea. The 20-year-old has immense potential and could be the next big thing.
Lavia Rising: Palmer hopes big for Chelsea
Lavia was the most in-demand player in 23/23. Klopp was hell-bent on securing a move to fill in defensive responsibilities in the midfield. However, Chelsea’s hijack at the last moment shocked everyone. Although he has played almost no games, Lavia will be seen as a new signing for the club. The coordination between Palmer and Lavia at Chelsea is the one to look out for. Cole Palmer is now a new marquee at Stamford Bridge. The 22 year old who boasts about 40 goal contribution in 45 games and is likely to start under Southgate at Euros, commented about the Belgian;
“One person I’ve played with [who is good] is Romeo Lavia. We’ve not seen him this season because he’s been injured for a full year but I think he’s one that, when he gets playing everyone will think, ‘Oh, he’s really good’”
Maresca is more than impressed with the current squad. He will have the liberty to spend on players. However, building a squad on and around Lavia and Palmer will be easy. Maresca would not have to take the toll of rebuilding it from scratch. Lavia has yet to prove his price tag of 60 pounds. The confidence in him by his manager and other players has been a key motivating factor for him during the time spent on the sidelines. It is a dream for most players to play for Chelsea at the highest level, and with a dynamic young squad, Lavia and Palmer will prove crucial for the UEFA Conference League.
