Recently a new variant of Covid named Omicron was detected in South Africa. This detection has given rise to many questions regarding India’s tour of South Africa. The Chairman of Cricket South Africa(CSA) Lawson Naidoo was in an interview with NDTV about the cancellation of the tour.

The Chief of CSA appreciated both the BCCI and the Indian government. They have taken the needed measures maturely as the other countries have overreacted by making travel restrictions. Naidoo has said that a maximum of 2000 supporters will be allowed to enter the stadium. Everyone entering the stadium will be verified about their vaccination as well. He also gave some information about the bio-bubble of teams and CSA emergency plan for any emergency.

When asked whether he is in contact with the BCCI, Naidoo said that he is in regular contact with the BCCI and reports about the situation in South Africa. The head of CSA also said that he is very happy with the way the Indian government has dealt with the situation. Unlike the other countries who have put some serious traveling measures despite WHO regarding it as an overreaction.

If the South Africa board received any special requests

Naidoo was also asked if BCCI has asked for any special requirements and about the schedule of the tour. To this, he answered that BCCI has not asked for any such things and the whole tour will be under strict Covid-19 rules.

In the first 2 test matches in Centurion and Johannesburg, their players are set to stay in the same hotel. While the other tests and all the white ball games are scheduled to take place in Cape Town and Paarl. All the players will stay in another hotel there. Everything is planned so that the players could be taken safely to the other hotel without breaking the bio bubble.

Naidoo said that before this series they have hosted Sri Lanka and Pakistan and had all the experience to host any team. CSA considers the safety of all the players, match officials, and team management as their top priority.

He also said that if somehow situations get bad, the Indian team can fly out of the county because they will use chartered flights to come and go.
