Chris Sutton was left annoyed after what Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said about VAR. Sutton was speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast and said that he did not like the comments by Arteta on VAR. The Gunners beat newly promoted Burnley by 3-1 on Saturday. Though, Arteta was left furious on VAR after a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United last week. The Spanish manager deemed the Gordon’s controversial assist decision as ‘absolute disgrace’. However, he was keen to praise the same VAR after the win over Kompany’s side. He said,
“You have to ask me about VAR — it was perfect. Beautiful, the referee and VAR were top. Let’s have some humour as well and move forward.”
Sutton was baffling on Arteta
However, Sutton was not much pleased with his statements. He also said that Arsenal’s coach was being ‘patronising’.
“I saw Mikel Arteta after the Arsenal game on try and make a joke out of what he’d done on VAR the previous week, saying let’s have some humour about it.
That was his quote. I’m sorry Mikel but what you did last week wasn’t funny. I didn’t like that. It was patronising wasn’t it? Condescending.”
Arteta was in praise for VAR officials and said that sending Fabio Vieira off was the correct decision. Moreover, he was also backed by the club who released a statement the day after the incident.
It is not the good sign from such a top class manager about officials. Moreover, he is facing a lot of criticism for it now as well. Arsenal sit third in the league table sharing points with Liverpool who are ahead of goal difference so . The Gunners will be heading to some tight fixtures following the international break. They are already looking to be comfortable in their UCL group stage and will qualify for round of 16.
