City want Veiga as they move out of Rice deal, reports suggest

Manchester City

City has shifted their focus from Declan Rice and is now targeting Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga as their potential midfield signing.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City has entered the race for Veiga, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. After pulling out of the Rice pursuit, City sees Veiga as a top option to strengthen their midfield. While Chelsea and Liverpool are still interested, City is well-informed about the potential deal. Meanwhile Veiga has a release clause of £35 million, and a departure from Celta is expected this summer.

Emergence of Veiga as a Goal Threat impresses City

Gabri Veiga had a standout season in La Liga, establishing himself as a breakout star. The 21-year-old midfielder impressed with 11 goals and four assists in 36 league games for Celta. His notable performance came in the final game of the season, where he scored twice against Barcelona to secure safety for his team.

Veiga’s remarkable rise has caught the attention of top clubs, including Manchester City. Besides, Pep Guardiola recognizes Veiga’s potential and believes he can transform the young Celta player into a consistent goalscorer. Manchester City has now emerged as a potential destination for the talented midfielder despite Arsenal’s interest previously.

Faro de Vigo reported in April that Veiga favored a move to Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta showing interest. However, City’s interest could sway Veiga’s decision, and the transfer fee would be significantly lower than what would have been required for Rice. With City shifting their focus away from Rice, Veiga presents an attractive option for the club’s midfield reinforcement.

City fans are eager to know the outcome of this deal as the player has a lot of potential. Pep also wants to seal this move before the pre-season starts. If the move materializes, there will be another Spanish talent in the Premier league next season.
