Conte disinterested in signing Eden Hazard: Right choice by the Spurs manager?

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

According to the Spanish Journalist Eduardo Inda, Conte is not interested in signing Hazard, instead, he wants Levy to push for Gareth Bale. Hazard has failed to keep up to his reputation of Chelsea at Real Madrid. Carlo Ancelotti has made it clear that he won’t stand in Hazard’s way if he wants to leave Los Blancos.

Real Madrid signed Eden Hazard with great expectations and Hazard was also vocal about his intentions to join Madrid. The Belgian was one of the best players in the world at Chelsea but it seems like he is diminishing every day since joining Madrid. While this could be due to his frequent injuries. Thus, many have also questioned Hazard’s fitness after joining Real Madrid.

Daniel Levy asked Conte about signing Hazard but Conte declined the move. Meanwhile, Newcastle are also seemingly interested in signing the Belgian international. Moreover, Conte has worked with Hazard before and declined the chance to work with him again. According to what Eduardo Inda told El Chiringuito TV, Conte says that the 30-year-old is not a hard worker and has very little intensity to offer.

Why Conte rejecting Hazard is a good call from the Italian manager?

Conte is aware of the cons he will face if Tottenham signs Hazard. The Belgian international will be heavily paid and have very little to offer for the club given his recent form. Hazard has spent most of his time injured at Real Madrid, while he has missed more matches than he has played for the club. It is very difficult for a player to get out of an injury crisis and get back to his best again. Moreover, if it is believed that Conte is right about Hazard’s hard work then it will be even more difficult.

Hazard is also not as fit as he used to be at Chelsea. While the winger lies below Vinicius in the pecking order at Real Madrid and he also seems to have lost the pace that he had once. Conte wants to rebuild Tottenham and he needs young and promising players who will help Spurs for years to come. He likes players who will guarantee success for his club. Further, he has also targeted a few players from Italy which include players from his former club Inter Milan. Conte has asked Levy to push for Bale who did decent with his loan spell at Spurs instead of Hazard. Bale also has the frightening pace to attack teams on the counter.

While the Hazard transfer did not turn out well for all three parties eventually. At this moment, no big club is interested in signing Hazard. Newcastle is the only club that is seriously considering getting Hazard’s signature. It will also be a fresh start for Hazard if that deal is supposed to go through. Even if Hazard does make a return to London, Conte may not use him often leading to another disappointing transfer.

Why Bale is a better fit at Spurs than Hazard?

Conte’s fast counter-attacking gameplay will profit more from Gareth Bale than from Eden Hazard. In addition, Chelsea fans would not be happy if Hazard joins a rival London club. Bale, who has previously played at Spurs and made his career at Spurs, will find it easier to succeed under Conte. If Conte wants to succeed at Spurs he has to make the right calls for the right transfers considering he has the backing of Mr Levy. While Conte couldn’t get carried by players’ previous form or their previous reputation in order to build a quality team.
