Darren Bent issues his verdict on the first January transfer for Tottenham Hotspur. Bent feels a little concerned about the latest Tottenham reinforcement of Timo Werner. Only few may have expected return for the German to the Premier League. He had a poor time at Chelsea and has not exactly set the world alight since returning to RB Leipzig. However, Spurs have signed him on a six months loan deal in the absence of their talisman Heung Min Son.
Ange Postecoglou has had some really good signings since is arrival at North London club. Guglielmo Vicario is probably one of the best keepers so far. Besides him, Destiny Udogie is also impressive at left-back role. Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent says he is a bit uncomfortable as an Arsenal fan.
“He’s a threat for starters. I think that’s why it makes me uneasy. I know in front of goal for Chelsea he was appalling. But before that, you look at his record for RB Leipzig, 213 appearances, he scored 113 goals. That’s not bad, that. That’s not bad at all.Got to Chelsea and the Premier League, I get it, didn’t really work for him. I think it’s a good signing for Spurs. He can play down the middle or he can play left or right.”
Werner surely is a pace machine which can be notorious for defenders. Though, the move is not an expensive one and Tottenham fans will not be regretting if the plan fails. They are not obliged to sign him on a permanent deal. Looking at their current position, COYS are not much far from top four. Arsenal and Aston Villa can be worried what Postecoglou can do in the second half of the season.
