Darwin Nunez is on the radar of The Gunners as they are keen to sign a center-forward in the summer transfer window. As per CalcioMercato, Arsenal is interested to sign the Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

Arsenal is looking for a new striker in the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are set to leave the club at the end of the season as free agents. Moreover, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also left the club in the January transfer window.

Former Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic was also rumored to join the Gunners but he ended up at Juventus. As a result, Arsenal is looking elsewhere and Nunez has reportedly emerged as an alternative.

The Uruguayan striker is going through an incredible form for Benfica. He has managed to score 25 goals in 30 appearances this season. Given his red-hot form, he might end up scoring 10-15 more goals.

Meanwhile, the youngster has scored 26 goals in 50 matches overall for Benfica. He has also scored 2 goals for his national side out of the 8 matches he has played.

Nunez started his youth career in La Luz. He later earned his senior caps with Penarol. In 2020, Nunez signed for Benfica for a club-record fee of €24 million.

The 22-year-old is labeled as a ‘world-class’ player in the making by Jorge Jesus. He has been linked with a move to the English Premier League for over a year and a half now.

A number of topsides have been monitoring his progress. Meanwhile, Arsenal is now working hard to sign the striker.

The Gunners’ transfer policy nowadays is to sign youngsters with immense talent. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta seems to fetch more young talents in his team even if they cost a lot of money. This can be seen in the signing of Ben White in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal splashed $70 million for the English center-back. As things stand, Nunez definitely checks most of the boxes.

As per various reports, the Portuguese giants are willing to let him leave. However, it will cost the Gunners a high amount, approximately $78 million to sign Nunez.

Back in 2020, when Arsenal’s rival club Tottenham Hotspur, were desperately looking for a backup to Harry Kane. Meanwhile, among most of the options, Tottenham wanted to sign Nunez.

However, Jose Mourinho, who was the manager of Tottenham, acted against the move. As a result, the transfer didn’t take place. The Spurs instead signed Vinicius, who failed to make an impact. The Spurs board must be frustrated as they failed to grab the golden opportunity.
