Reliable football journalist Fabrizio Romano expects Manchester United number one David de Gea to sign a new long-term deal with the club in 2022.
David de Gea initially lost his place in the starting lineup to Dean Henderson the last term. But an injury at the start of the season prevented Henderson to start the season in net for Manchester United. The England international has not had a look into the side with David de Gea returning to his best.
The Spaniard has been in top form this term and has saved his side time and time again. He looks well on his way to winning his fifth United Player of the Season award ahead of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes. He has undoubtedly been one of the best goalkeepers in the world this term. But David‘s current deal with the club runs only until June 2023.
What did Fabrizio Romano say about David de Gea contract situation?
Talking to The United Stand YouTube channel about David de Gea‘s contract situation, Fabrizio Romano said:
“It is something that Manchester United want to discuss this year, 2022,”
“They don’t want to arrive in 2023 with de Gea’s future in danger. The player is more than appreciated by his teammates, the board, Ralf Rangnick – they know how serious he is, how professional he is.
“He’s having a fantastic season and saved United many, many times. They want to continue with de Gea. Also he was very respectful of the club in the last interview he did. Talking about his Manchester United life, even in not an easy period for United.
“He’s always showing his commitment. So I’m sure, from what I’m told they want to get it resolved with David de Gea and I don’t see any problem with de Gea. They need to discuss and find an economical agreement but the plans from de Gea are always the same.”
Declan Rice on top of Manchester United’s wishlist for the summer?
Fabrizio Romano also talked about Manchester United’s wishlist for the summer transfer window. The journalist declared that West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is on top of the United wishlist for the summer, he said:
“They will work as they always do with a list and there at the top of the list, of course, is Declan Rice.
“They love him, but it’s the same for Manchester City, Chelsea and many other clubs across Europe and it is not easy to sign him. Ruben Neves is another player they have always been following.”
